As you will be aware, your union UCU is balloting you to ask whether you are prepared to take industrial action over redundancies and the dismissal of UCU union reps at London Metropolitan University. The ballot opens today and I am writing to ask you to please complete and return your ballot paper.
I’m also writing to assure you of my support and extend to you solidarity from the national union at this difficult time for UCU members at London Met. It’s clear to me that massive job cuts will seriously damage the university, staff morale and ultimately students’ education.
Management attacks on the union are also unacceptable and I stand with the entire union in calling for the reinstatement of your local reps Mark Campbell and David Hardman. Mark and David are longstanding UCU reps who have tirelessly stood up for members and education at London Met – now I am asking you to stand up for them.
Taking industrial action is always a last resort but regrettably the university is pressing ahead with the planned cuts and so I am now asking you to stand together and vote YES to defend jobs, education and your local UCU reps, David and Mark.
The ballot closes at 12 midday on 16 September 2016.
